City of San Diego – Zip code 92104
North Park is situated to the northeast of Balboa Park, and is surrounded by University Heights, Hillcrest, and South Park. The south boundary of North Park sits on Switzer Canyon with the east boundary created by Interstate 805. The North Park sign at 30th Street and University Avenue is considered to be the heart of the neighborhood. North Park’s development began in 1910 and took over what struggled to be a lemon grove. Real Estate developers saw the difficultly farmers had with irrigation throughout the hills and valleys of this area and decided it would be better suited to businesses and housing.
North Park has become one of the latest areas to gentrify in San Diego, with new restaurants, shops, bars and breweries opening monthly. North Park hosts one of the largest farmers markets in the city and is known for its promotion of arts and music. While the casual nightlife scene can attract a younger, college age crowd, the abundance of coffee shops and antique stores balance out the demographics. Homes here are known for their craftsman style and can be found both renovated, and in their original state. Because this is an up-and-coming area prices are on the rise, but diamonds in the rough can still be found if you’ve got the patience, luck and timing.
